An emery roller works by using a rotating, abrasive emery-coated roller to de-husk, scour, or polish grains and lentils as they pass through the machine. The grain is fed into a hopper and passes between the rotating emery roller and a stationary screen, where the friction removes the outer husk or hull without damaging the grain itself. The de-husked product then exits the machine.
